Here’s the story I keep hearing over and over again about promo codes for existing Lyft users: “I’ve already used up my first new user credit. I want to continue using Lyft, but how can I find more deals? Are there any promo codes for existing users or app tricks I can use to get more free credits?”
Sorry storyteller, there are no promo codes for existing Lyft users.
And the problem for old and existing users grows deeper: Now that everybody seems to know about Lyft, free credits are harder and harder to come by, but the tricks below are the best — and only — ways for you to get free credit once you’re no longer a new user.
Lyft credit for existing users: Every trick I know
Share new user promo codes with friends
You may have already used a promo code, but your friends who are at the bar with you right now probably haven’t! Ask someone in your group to download Lyft and input a new user promo code (I suggest my working promo code ‘freerideshare‘). When it’s time to go, your friend requests the ride and you join along with. Bam, free ride.

This worked for me the other day at a Kaytranada show in Orange County. Just when I thought all of my friends had used Lyft, it I asked around and found out that one person in our group hadn’t used the app. He used my promo code and the four of us got to the show for free.

Use the ‘Invite Friends’ feature to bank free rides
This trick is going to the saving grace that rains down endless free credits on you until the end of time. The “Invite Friends” feature allows you to invite your phone contacts to download Lyft. If they download the app from your invitation and request a ride, you get one free ride up to $10. It’s a powerful feature that very few people use because they don’t want to “spam” their friends.
I say spam away! It’s not like you’re sending your friends a bunk offer to join a lame daily deals email newsletter — Lyft is actually worth using for just about anybody.
What if all of your friends have already used Lyft? How do you get free credit?
Sadly, there’s not much more you can do other than what I’ve written above. There are a few sketchy “black hat” tricks floating around online, but those will get you banned from the app. I won’t endorse those here.
Besides…Lyft cut their prices (link to article) yet again. Taking a Lyft is now roughly 50% cheaper than a cab, and a gagillion times cheaper than getting a DUI. After you’ve used all the tricks for existing users, suck it up and pay for your Lyft! No promo code will save you.
Final Trick: Download Uber and use promo code CWS7S2
When you run out of ways to get free credit, Uber is the way to go. If you’re new to Uber, promo code CWS7S2 will get you one free ride, up to $30. Sorry not sorry, Lyft.
