Big changes are coming to the Zero Emissions incentive program for Uber drivers! Drivers will no longer receive $1 for every eligible ride. Instead, the new incentive pays $210 for 200 eligible EV rides every 30 days.
The new Zero Emissions incentive goes live on April 11th.
The new bonus is a pay cut for full-time EV drivers and drivers who can’t hit the minimum
Capping the bonus at $210 per month is a pay cut for drivers who do more than 200 rides per month and a pay cut for drivers who can’t reach the 200-ride minimum.
With the former Zero Emissions incentive, drivers received $1 for every eligible ride with a maximum bonus of $4,000 per year. At $210 per month, the yearly maximum bonus will only be $2520. That’s a pay cut.
A full-time EV driver could easily earn $400+ monthly from the bonus and earn the maximum bonus within 10 months. That’s changing!
Uber had to pay drivers an ‘adjustment’ for missed EV bonuses in 2022 and 2023
The news of changes to the Zero Emissions incentive comes after thousands of drivers recently received earnings adjustments for missed Zero Emissions incentive payments in 2022 and 2023.
It turns out that Uber incorrectly priced rides that were eligible for the $1 Zero Emissions bonus. After complaints from drivers and an internal investigation, many drivers received large make-up payments.
The former Zero Emissions incentive was a rocky road for drivers, so we’ll have to see if Uber can correctly pull off the new one!
