How far can you go in a Lyft? What’s the maximum ride distance?

By Doug H, Updated January 7, 2025 2 Comments

Let’s say you and your friends want to take a late-night trip to Vegas or a run to the border. You’ve been drinking, so you decide to use Lyft. How far can the Lyft driver take you? Is there a maximum distance for a Lyft ride?

The maximum Lyft distance is 60 miles

After 60 miles, the Lyft fare calculator stops. You can continue the ride, but the driver will need to stop the ride and have you re-request a Lyft. Drivers are only obligated to take you up to the maximum distance, so don’t be surprised if your driver boots you out of the car after the 60 mile limit. Remember — they need to get home too!

How much does a 60 mile Lyft cost?

Let’s use Los Angeles ride prices to figure out how much a 60 mile Lyft will cost you. At $1.55 per mile and $0.35/minute, you’re looking at a $120 fare. Cheaper than a cab, but still pretty pricey.

I took a rider 252 miles once, but wasn’t paid for all of it because of lyfts maximum fare amount policy. The policy does state that a rider can’t request a ride that exceeds the maximum fare amount but that’s a lie!! Lyft will authorize the trip and charge the rider for every inch, but won’t pay the driver for the entire trip. It will show up as “not eligible earnings” on the drivers way bill and lyft keeps the money!! Yeah, lyft is a crooked, criminal company when it comes to their drivers!!
