There’s a big change coming to shopping and delivery orders on Spark: You can now shop for multiple orders at the same time!
But if batched orders are anything like multiple batches on Instacart, don’t expect twice the pay for twice the work!
How batched orders work on Spark
With batched shopping and delivery, you can shop and deliver for multiple customers in one trip. For a batched delivery, the trip offer lists the number of stops, the drop-off location for each customer and an item quantity for each order.
The estimated payout for the order includes batch pay and any customer tips left at checkout.
When you shop for the orders, each item on the shopping list is marked with a letter to match it with the correct customer order. The app shows a recommended shopping order to help you efficiently shop for each order simultaneously.
While shopping, you will be able to contact each customer in separate chats.
When you’re ready to checkout, use the lists in the app to bag each separate order. Like other shopping orders, you only have to scan one QR code to finish checking out. You will receive one exit pass that shows all items in the basket.
After you load your vehicle, navigate to each customer and deliver the correct order to the correct address.
How pay works for batched orders?
Like other offers, batched shopping offers show one estimated payout that includes base pay from Spark and any tips left by customers at checkout. Customers have 24 hours to adjust their tips, so tip baiting will still be possible for batched offers.
Spark doesn’t say exactly how the payment calculation works for any orders, and batched orders are no exception. What you see is what you get!
Base pay is not multiplied for batched orders. Instead, batched orders offer a small bump in base pay. You don’t get twice the pay for twice the work!
Lessons from batched orders on Instacart
If batched orders on Spark are anything like batched orders on Instacart, here’s what you can expect:
You won’t get twice the pay for doing two orders. Two orders means double the base pay, right? Wrong. On Instacart, double don’t pay twice as much as single orders. There is a slight pay bump.
Communication and organization are a challenge. Juggling multiple batches is a challenge. You have to be more organized and more focused on communication with customers. It’s easier to make a mistake: You can mix items between orders or even accidentally deliver the wrong order to the wrong customer.
Orders without tips will be batched with orders that have tips. Your goal on both Instacart and Spark is to target orders with strong tips. But on Instacart, a trend appeared: On batched orders, one order usually has a good tip and the other has no tip at all, and you don’t find out until the order is complete. Batched orders make it hard to filter out non-tipping orders.
Over time, most orders will become batched orders. At first, most Instacart orders were single orders. But over time, most orders became batched orders, and single orders became rare. Expect Spark to increase the number of batched orders over time.
