Do you want to make money with your vehicle on a flexible schedule? Driving for a delivery app might be right for you. It’s one of the hottest gigs right now because delivery companies need more and more drivers to keep up with huge customer demand.

Requirements for these gigs are easy, the hiring process is fast, and the work is perfect if you need a flexible side income.

1. DoorDash

DoorDash is also an on-demand food delivery app. Just like Postmates, delivery drivers use the DoorDash app to pick up and deliver orders to customers.

DoorDash pays drivers a bit differently: Each order shows a minimum guaranteed payout of a delivery before you accept it. Then DoorDash runs an calculation. If $1 + your tip doesn’t meet the guarantee, DoorDash adds a “pay boost” to meet the minimum. It’s an unusual payment practice, but in the end DoorDash drivers earn about the same as Postmates drivers — in the $8 – $15 per hour range.

Requirements to drive for DoorDash are pretty easy: You must be 18 or older, you can use any vehicle, and after you pass a free background check you’ll have to complete a brief orientation.

Instacart

Instacart is a grocery delivery service. As an Instacart shopper, you will visit stores to pick out items, purchase them with an Instacart payment card, then deliver the order to the customer. There are two types of Instacart jobs available: The full-service shopper gig, and the in-store shopper job. Click here to learn the difference.

As a shopper, you will be paid for each order batch you complete. Batch payments are determined by estimated time, miles, and complexity of the order. Shoppers keep 100% of tips.

One nice thing about Instacart is that you will see the total estimated payout – including the tip – up front before you accept the order. So you’ll be tell right away which orders are high paying. Instacart shoppers can expect to earn between $12 – $22/hour.

The requirements to drive for Instacart aren’t too demanding: You only have to be 18 or older with a clean driving record, and access to a vehicle.

2. Postmates

Postmates is an on-demand delivery service for restaurants and local stores. As a Postmates driver, you’ll pick up and delivery food orders.

Delivery couriers are paid a fee for picking up the order, a fee for dropping it off, a per-minute rate for wait time at the restaurant, and a per mile rate between pickup and drop-off. You can expect to earn around $8 – $15 per hour.

Postmates accepts any vehicle – No model years are disqualified. Drivers must be 18 or older, and you will also have to undergo a free background check. Some markets allow bicycle or scooter delivery.

3. Uber Eats

Uber Eats is Uber’s on-demand food delivery app. Like Postmates and DoorDash, customers use UberEATS to order food from local restaurant. UberEATS drivers pick up and deliver the orders.

Uber Eats pays drivers like this: A pickup fee + a distance rate from pickup to drop-off + a time rate from pickup to delivery + a drop-off fee. Uber takes a 25% cut, then any tips you receive are added on top. In the end, Uber Eats drivers make around $8 – $12 per hour. That’s sometimes lower than Postmates and DoorDash, but Uber Eats may have higher order volume in some cities.

To drive for Uber Eats you’ll need to be 19 or older with access to an vehicle. Any model year qualifies. Bicycle couriers can be 18 or older. You will also need to pass a background check.

Delivery apps are a good option. You can use any car and set your own schedule.

Trying to complete Application for Door Dash. The application asks for your birthdate, the problem is that October, November, December are not an option. My birthdate is November; so I Door Dash would not let me complete their application.

Who do I contact to fix this issue?

That’s odd. Try filling the application out in a different internet browser. If that doesn’t work, you can contact DoorDash on this page. Scroll to “I still need help”

Always start by contacting the customer. Then if they don’t show up, each app has a way to get paid even if the customer is a no show

Problem is these companies are taking full advantage of employees with how they pay. After factoring in the costs for normal wear and tear on your vehicle you make very little or no money.
