For a company valued in the billions, the DoorDash app has more outages and connectivity issues than you might think.
It happens so often that Dashers have even given it a nickname: DoorCrash!
Take a quick look at the DoorDash subreddit to see what drivers have to say about DoorDash going down:
“Is the app down for anyone else? DoorCrash!”
“App down? I’m getting unknown errors”
“Is the app down or just slow?”
“I feel like DoorDash runs their backend services on a potato”
There are a lot of problems when DoorDash crashes: You can’t log into the app, and if you’re mid order you won’t be able to move to the next step in the delivery.
In this article, you’ll learn how to see if the DoorDash app is down, what to do during an outage, how to troubleshoot the app, and how to tell the difference between a slow day and full-on crash.
How to confirm that the DoorDash app is down
When the DoorDash app is having a service outage, you will likely see one of the following errors:
- You will be unable to log into the app
- “We’re experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later”
- A notification from DoorDash may let you know about the outage
- “503 service temporarily unavailable”
- “502 bad gateway”
The errors above can indicate a widespread crash, but for reassurance you can try to confirm that it’s not just an issue with your phone or account.

How to troubleshoot common DoorDash app issues
If you’re unable to log in or if you are experiencing other app problems and it doesn’t seem like the outage is widespread, there might be an issue with your phone or the DoorDash app.
Try these troubleshooting steps to fix your app:
- Disable wifi (some Dashers report having issues logging in on wifi)
- Turn airplane mode on and off
- Force close and restart the app
- Clear app cache (Android only)
- If none of thee above work: Uninstall and reinstall the app
You can also try contacting DoorDash at 855-973-1040. They may be able to tell you if the issue is with you, or if it’s a broader outage.
Not getting any orders: Is it an app problem, or a slow day?
Here’s a common scenario: You’re on a busy lunch shift expecting nonstop work, and for some reason 40 minutes has gone by without a single order.
Is the app down, or is it just a slow day? It can be hard to tell, especially with DoorDash going down as often as it does.
Typically, you’ll know the app is not down when you’re able to log in and no error messages appear.
Slow days happen. With so many variables in the delivery marketplace you can expect an unusually slow day every now and then.
To reassure yourself that there isn’t an outage, check out Reddit or DownDetector to see if others are experiencing an outage. If they’re not, you’re probably experiencing a slow day. Wait it out, or reposition to a different area.
What to do if DoorDash goes down mid order
The most challenging situation during an outage is having the app go down while you’re mid order.
In some situations you can complete the order, but in others you’ll have to let the delivery go. One upside: If you have the food in hand but no delivery address, it could be yours to keep.
If you already picked up the food and you know where to deliver it, go ahead and complete the delivery. When the app comes back online, you can let support know that you finished the order. Try to take a photo of the delivery to protect yourself from any fraudulent claims.
But the much more common scenario during an outage is that you haven’t arrived at the restaurant, or you don’t know the customer’s address.
In that case, you can try calling customer service at 855-973-1040 for help completing the order. But during a widespread outage you’ll likely face long hold times.
In reality most deliveries can’t be completed during an outage. DoorDash shouldn’t penalize you for any issues that are caused by an outage, so don’t worry too much about your completion rate if you have to drop a delivery.
If you’ve been burned by outages before, consider taking a screenshot of the order information so you can finish the order when an outage happens.
