In NYC, Uber vehicles can be 15 years old or newer.
Uber Eats vehicle requirements
Uber Eats is an on-demand food delivery service that has easier vehicle requirements. The main difference is that Uber Eats accepts vehicles with 2 doors, and your vehicle can be older.
Uber Eats vehicles must be 20 years old or newer in some cities, while others only allow 15 years old or newer. Read more about driving for Uber Eats here.
The Uber Vehicle Inspection
In many cities, you must have your vehicle inspected before you can begin accepting ride requests. You can have your vehicle inspected at an Uber-affiliated location or a state-certified mechanic.
Inspections at Uber-affiliated locations may be free or low-cost. Independent mechanics typically charge around $30 for an inspection.
The inspection covers the basic mechanical condition of your car: Brakes, tires, lights, windows, and safety features are inspected.
You will get ride requests for every service that your car qualifies for
If you drive for Uber with a vehicle that is eligible for more than one service, you will get ride requests for all the services your vehicle is eligible for.
For example, if you drive an SUV that qualifies for XL, you will receive ride requests for Uber X and XL by default. You can choose to enable or disable ride requests from other Uber services in your Driving Preferences.
How to enable or disable requests for other Uber ride types
Visiting the Driving Preferences menu in the Uber driver app to select the types of trip requests you receive.
For example, if you have an XL vehicle, you can disable Uber X requests and only allow XL requests.
Tap the bottom area of the home screen to open your Trip Planner. Then tap the icon with two lines to open Driving Preferences. Tap on a service to enable or disable requests from that service.

Choose what type of ride requests you receive in Driving Preferences
One warning: The ride volume of higher-cost services like UberXL and Comfort is typically much lower than the volume of UberX rides. Most drivers accept ride requests from all Uber services to stay busy.
You might not get enough requests if you limit yourself to only one ride type.
Aging out of the system: Your car can become too old for Uber
It is possible for your car to age out of Uber’s system. Uber updates their model year requirement every year, typically a few months into the new year.
When your car no longer matches the minimum model year requirement, you will no longer be able to go online with that vehicle.
Find out: Does your car qualify for Uber?
The best way to find out if your car qualifies for Uber is to go to the search tool at Uber.com and enter your city and vehicle model.
Ultimately, the only way to determine if your car qualifies is to go through the application process.
After you let Uber know what kind of car you have and provide basic personal information, Uber will tell you if you should move forward to complete the background check and vehicle inspection.

Depends on the city. Check Ubermovement.com. Many cities are 2006 or newer, some are 2004 or newer, LA/OC/SF are 2001

I have a 2014 Cadillac CTS, I believe it can be used for Uberselect. Do I have to get any special licenses, permits, etc. to drive Select? I live in Tucson Arizona. Also, do you think the higher fares w/select would offset my higher gas use? People who drive for Uber have told me that a nice car when used for regular Uber passengers sometimes gets them tips and better ratings(with great customer service,of course!). Do you agree with this? Thanks in advance for your reply.
DougH says
Tucson does have Select and your car qualifies. You don’t need any special licenses or permits beyond the normal requirements for UberX drivers in Tucson. I think the higher cost will help offset gas, but demand is also lower for Select. By default you’ll also get UberX requests, but you may be able to get a Select-only profile if you ask Uber.

I live in Redding, CA, where I understand that Uber is just getting started.
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus, very good condition with nice leather interior ………..87 K Miles in perfect condition.
Would my car qualify? Please advise.
With Much Appreciation ~ Kelly ~
DougH says
I wasn’t able to find the exact requirements for Redding, but many cities are 2006 or newer. Some CA cities like LA and SF are 2001 or newer, though. You’ll have to contact Uber to find out for certain.

Couple questions ;
My wife and I own a 2013 Dodge 3500 megacab 4doors 4passenger capacity.
1. Would this be qualified?
can both of us be linked to this vehicle as long as only one of us is online at a time?
Since we have extra cargo/towing capacity, are there requests for delivery of large items through Uber?
DougH says
That car qualifies, but to be honest the gas expenses might be too high to make it worth it. Both you and your wife can list that vehicle on your individual driver profiles as long as both of you are insured for it. Uber doesn’t do any large item deliveries, so there’s no way for passengers to request you for that kind of thing.
