Typically when you order from Postmates, DoorDash. and Uber Eats, you want your food handed to you at your door. But now that many people are limiting contact with others for health reasons, the delivery apps have added a new option for no-contact deliveries that don’t require a person-to-person handoff.
The two main delivery options for food delivery apps used to be: Deliver to my door or meet me outside. Now Postmates, DoorDash, and Uber Eats have added a “no-contact delivery” option to have your delivery left at your door without any direct person-to-person contact. Here’s how to request a no-contact delivery in both apps.

How to Request No-Contact Delivery on Postmates
Postmates now includes a drop-off option called ‘leave order at my door.’ When you select this option, your Postmates courier will leave the order at your door and then leave it for you to pick up.
To request a no-contact Postmates delivery: Once you reach the cart page, tap Review Order > Tap the delivery address > Tap ‘Drop-off Options’ > select ‘Leave order at my door’
How to Request No-Contact Delivery on DoorDash
No-contact delivery is also possible on DoorDash, but you have to write the request into delivery instructions instead of choosing an easy ‘no contact’ button.
To request a no-contact DoorDash delivery: On the checkout page, tap “Delivery instructions,” then write in your request for a no-contact delivery. Leave detailed instructions about the drop-off location. DoorDash also recommends that you text your Dasher to remind them of your request, and they also recommend sending a picture of your drop-off location so your Dasher knows exactly where to leave the food.
DoorDash instructs Dashers to text a photo of the delivery bag at your drop-off location and walk away. Pay close attention to the delivery progress just in case your Dasher doesn’t text you a photo after they drop off the delivery.
How to Request No-Contact Delivery on Uber Eats
The Uber Eats app now has a ‘leave at door’ option on the ‘Your Cart’ page.
To request a no-contact Uber Eats delivery: Select the items for your order and tap ‘View Cart.’ On the ‘Your Cart’ page, find the ‘Delivery options’ section and tap ‘Leave at door.’ You will then be asked to enter more details about where the order should be left.
After you place your order, you can follow the delivery progress map to see where your delivery courier is. You will receive a notification after they have dropped off the order.

How No-Contact Deliveries Work for DoorDash Dashers
DoorDash sent instructions to DoorDash Dashers on how to complete a no-contact delivery. The instructions say to pay close attention to the requested drop-off location, place the food in the designated spot, take a photo of the food and send it to the customer via text.
Dashers are then supposed to walk back a comfortable distance and wait until the customer picks up the food. At that point, the order should be marked as delivered.
How No-Contact Deliveries Work for Postmates Couriers
When a customer requests a no-contact delivery, Postmates instructs couriers to leave the delivery at the customer’s door and take a photo of the items. Postmates also reminds couriers to pay close attention to the customer’s specific delivery instructions.

DoorDash is putting too much leverage into a customers position. If they are really concerned about safety and efficiency, the service should set the terms not the drunk customer with their settings shut off to receive texts and photos. As drivers we are driving to a location and waiting for food often with no parking and risking a ticket. Then we are driving to the location to drop off food. That’s it and we are doing it for a low wage. As far as I’m concerned, least the customer can do is come out for their food and simply tell us to leave the bag and away we go. That’s not the case with waiting for specific instructions for a drop off location, taking photos and texting photos that they often don’t get because their settings on their phone blocks the communication. We need people to come out for their food so we can leave and get to the next customer. I’ve personally complained about this in the chat section with no resolution. Even though I was told a supervisor would get back to me. Total waste of time. We do enough. The least a customer can do is come out to our car and get their food. If they want a clean location, let them go outside and clean what they think is a proper location for the food to be dropped off and we can meet them there to put their food down so they can take it. This protocol is absurd and waisting time and holding up other customers for their food. Quite frankly its stupid. After complaining about this with a chat person in DoorDash for over an hour, I asked for a supervisor. I was told the supervisor would call me back but they never did. No surprise. This was three weeks ago. I demanded a reference number to the conversation. I was at least provided that. #100761283. What does it mean. Nothing. Since then I’ve been working for Instacart. I have no patience for foolishness.

Uber has an issue with delays in annual background checks by Checkr being delayed due to the shut down. I was doing Uber Eats deliveries up until Friday afternoon at which time Uber locked me out of my account because Checkr hadn’t been able to complete by annual background check within the normal 30 day time period. Uber is doing nothing to help me get my account opened so I can continue providing deliveries during this shutdown. They won’t admit the problem even exists. I have a text message from someone with inside knowledge of this issue that admits this problem.

Sorry to hear it! I imagine there will be a lot of issues like this in the coming months. I’ve also heard their telephone support is barely available because of closures overseas. Meanwhile, try to get on board with Postmates, DoorDash, or GrubHub. Always good to have a backup!
