In NYC, Uber vehicles can be 15 years old or newer.
Uber Eats vehicle requirements
Uber Eats is an on-demand food delivery service that has easier vehicle requirements. The main difference is that Uber Eats accepts vehicles with 2 doors, and your vehicle can be older.
Uber Eats vehicles must be 20 years old or newer in some cities, while others only allow 15 years old or newer. Read more about driving for Uber Eats here.
The Uber Vehicle Inspection
In many cities, you must have your vehicle inspected before you can begin accepting ride requests. You can have your vehicle inspected at an Uber-affiliated location or a state-certified mechanic.
Inspections at Uber-affiliated locations may be free or low-cost. Independent mechanics typically charge around $30 for an inspection.
The inspection covers the basic mechanical condition of your car: Brakes, tires, lights, windows, and safety features are inspected.
If your car qualifies for more than one service, you’ll get ride requests for each
If you drive for Uber with a vehicle that is eligible for more than one service, you will get ride requests for all the services your vehicle is eligible for.
For example, if you drive an SUV that qualifies for XL, you will receive Uber X and XL requests. To enable or disable ride requests from other Uber services, head to Driving Preferences.
How to enable or disable requests for other Uber ride types
Visiting the Driving Preferences menu in the Uber driver app to select the types of trip requests you receive.
For example, if you have an XL vehicle, you can disable Uber X requests and only allow XL requests.
Tap the bottom area of the home screen to open your Trip Planner. Then tap the icon with two lines to open Driving Preferences. Tap on a service to enable or disable requests from that service.
One warning: The ride volume of higher-cost services like UberXL and Comfort is typically much lower than the volume of UberX rides. Most drivers accept ride requests from all Uber services to stay busy.
You might not get enough requests if you limit yourself to only one ride type.
Aging out of the system: Your car can become too old for Uber
It is possible for your car to age out of Uber’s system. Uber updates their model year requirement every year, typically a few months into the new year.
When your car no longer matches the minimum model year requirement, you will no longer be able to go online with that vehicle.
Find out: Does your car qualify for Uber?
The best way to find out if your car qualifies for Uber is to go to the search tool at Uber.com and enter your city and vehicle model.
Ultimately, the only way to determine if your car qualifies is to go through the application process.
After you let Uber know what kind of car you have and provide basic personal information, Uber will tell you if you should move forward to complete the background check and vehicle inspection.

What is the minimum year car that I can use to drive in Eastern, NC? I would be between Jacksonville and Wilmington NC. When I try the link with my city it does not link to a page

Looks like Wilmington accepts cars 15 years old or newer, so 2005 or newer should work. Here’s the Uber page for Wilmington.

I live in the Dover Delaware area in Wyoming Delaware. I have a 2012 Chev Cruz 4dr. My car is paid for. I make sure my car is kept up with maintenance. I do have USAA full coverage since I was 16. I’m 53 years old and have a great driving record. And know the area quite good. I have been a resident of Delaware for 52 years and work for the State of Delaware for almost 15 years. I was told by other Über drivers that the vehicle has to be less than 5 years only to find out its possible that it can be older. I would like to start dipping my toes in something that I can enjoy and I can do on my off time. I just want to make a little extra income and enjoy helping people. Hopefully so I can get a newer car and continue to drive for Über! Can you direct me what I need to do?! Are there restrictions on vehicles that have had pets? Or a used to be smokers car but not now? Please let me know if my car is accepted in this state and guide me what I have to do to see how I can be a driver! You all are frontrunners in this and that’s exciting!
DougH says
Take a look at this page from Uber: Delaware Vehicle Requirements. It that cars in DE can be 15 years old or newer. Your Cruze should easily qualify, and would be a good car for Ubering. If you think you meet the other requirements, go ahead and give it a shot!
