goPuff is a rapidly growing delivery app that brings convenience store items to your door.
Delivering for goPuff is a flexible gig that pays up to $20 per hour. Requirements are fairly simple: You need to be 21+ with access to a car.
What is goPuff?
goPuff is a delivery app for convenience items—Think snacks, drinks, OTC medications, and basic household items. Customers shop with the goPuff app, then goPuff drivers deliver the items to the customer’s location.
Customers pay a flat-rate delivery fee. goPuff stocks all items in a local warehouse, so drivers deliver directly from the warehouse.
What Do goPuff Delivery Drivers Do?
goPuff customers order items using the goPuff app, then goPuff drivers deliver the orders. Here’s what the work consists of:
- Drivers schedule shifts in advance each week
- Begin the shift at the local micro-fulfillment center
- Wait for order requests
- Deliver orders to customers
- Return to the fulfillment center to receive more orders
- Deliveries are within a half-hour radius of the goPuff warehouse
- Drivers are paid weekly via direct deposit
When Are goPuff Shifts Released Each Week?
It depends on your fulfillment center. Many locations release shifts each Friday at 12PM. Shifts can be in short supply, so make sure to check the goDrive app as soon as shifts are released.

How Much Do goPuff Drivers Make? Pay Structure
goPuff claims that drivers make “up to $20 per hour.” Drivers receive a commission per order and 100% of tips. There is also a guaranteed hourly minimum pay rate that ensures you will still be paid even if order volume is low.
For example, goPuff might offer $4 for each order and a guaranteed minimum pay of $12 per hour. If you deliver 4 orders in an hour, you will receive $16 (plus any tips you might get). If you only deliver 2 orders in the hour, you’ll receive $8 in commission and a $4 subsidy to meet the $12 minimum.
The goPuff earnings structure isn’t the same in every city, and goPuff regularly tweaks their pay system. In an effort to simplify pay, some cities are beginning to pay by the hour.
Earnings promotions: goPuff may offer weekly bonuses, pay boosts, and other promotions. An example of a boost: “Earn $6 extra per order when you deliver from 4pm – 12AM Sunday.”
Weekly rewards are tiered bonuses for completing deliveries. For example: $200 for 35 orders, $250 for 70, and so on.
Drivers in California are paid according to the Prop 22 earnings structure.
One goPuff driver on Ride.Guru said this about his pay: “I earn $11.25 an hour with a $4 commission each bag. If you deliver bags more than $11.25, you will get paid that instead of $11.25. I’ve once made $36 for a single hour in the winter when commission was $6 due to heavy snow. Tips are 100% but average is lower than non alcohol sales. ”
Some goPuff drivers are independent contractors and others are W-2 employees. Different markets can offer different positions. goPuff who drivers are independent contractors must cover their own expenses, and have to pay higher self-employment taxes.
Where Can You Drive for goPuff?
Currently goPuff is available in most major cities in the US. goPuff is also available in some smaller towns, and throughout the South and Southeast. See the full list of goPuff cities here.
How to Become a goPuff Driver: The Application Process
To become a goPuff driver, visit the goPuff driver application page and fill it out.
The initial application only asks if you understand the basic requirements: You need a car, a smartphone, and you need to understand that you’re expected to show up on time to the goPuff warehouse at the beginning of your shift.
After you complete the application, you’ll receive a welcome email along with an email asking you to schedule an interview. Interviews are now conducted over the phone. Not all locations require interviews.
After you complete the interview, you’ll be able to schedule shifts and begin working.
goPuff vs Uber Eats and DoorDash
How does driving for goPuff compare to other deliver app gigs like Uber Eats and DoorDash?
goPuff shifts are scheduled in advance. With goPuff, shifts must be scheduled in advanced each week. Uber Eats doesn’t require any scheduling. Instead, drivers simply log into the app whenever they want to work.
Some delivery apps require scheduling (DoorDash, Amazon Flex), but compared to big names like Uber Eats, goPuff is a bit more restrictive on when you can work.
Shifts begin at a goPuff fulfillment center. goPuff drivers begin their shift by arriving at the local goPuff warehouse. With other delivery apps, you can begin working wherever you are as long as it’s within the local service area.
That means that goPuff delivery drivers have a bit less flexibility and more responsibility than Uber Eats or Postmates drivers who can simply begin working wherever they want.
All goPuff items come from a fulfillment center. All goPuff items for sale are stored in the goPuff warehouse. Other goPuff workers prepare the order, and drivers simply load the order in their vehicle and deliver it.
With Uber Eats and DoorDash, drivers have to make two stops: First at the restaurant/store, then the customer. goPuff drivers only go between the goPuff warehouse and customers. Uber Eats and DoorDash drivers may have to drive all over town to different restaurants and stores to pick up orders before they can deliver them to customers.
Uber Eats and DoorDash drivers can pick and choose orders. goPuff drivers can’t. As a goPuff driver, you’ll do every order that comes your way. On Uber Eats and DoorDash, you can reject offers until you see one you want to do.
goPuff vs Uber Eats and DoorDash pay: Average earnings may be higher on Uber Eats and DoorDash because up-front payout estimates make it possible to screen out the lowest paying orders. With goPuff, you have to accept every order that comes your way even if there is no tip.
Should You Drive for goPuff? Is it a Good Gig?
Like any gig, driving for goPuff comes with positives and negatives. On the positive side, the actual delivery work is simpler because all items are stored at the goPuff warehouse.
You won’t have to deal with the added hassle of navigating to stores or restaurants to pick up items, which is a downside that comes with Uber Eats or DoorDash.
The compensation structure and overall pay may be a negative aspect of delivering for goPuff. The top range of pay is around $20 per hour, but it can dip as low as $8 per hour.
Another negative is that you are required to show up on time to the goPuff warehouse, which is not something other delivery app drivers have to do. Uber Eats and DoorDash drivers can start their day from anywhere.
Ultimately, goPuff is flexible work with easy vehicle requirements, so it could be a good side hustle or part-time job.

They good with me and I make enough to pay my bills I get paid on time they ok me
GoPuff Driver says
DO NOT WORK FOR GOPUFF. Every week I’m having to fight to get paid my full check and unless I’m aggressive with my emails (there’s no phone number to call only emails) they ignore me. Inside staff is not told anything about how pay and stuff works so they’ll always just tell you to email support. You will need to ALWAYS be screenshotting every order you do, any boosts, hrs etc you get and ALWAYS do the math on your checks, cause they WILL try to short you. Don’t do it.
