There are no Uber promo codes for existing users! Other ways to save

By Doug H, Updated January 2, 2025 42 Comments

If you’ve never used Uber before, it’s easy to find a promo code that offers a discount for new users. But it’s harder to find a deal if you’ve already taken a ride.

Uber promo codes that work for existing users are only created for limited-time events, so finding a code can be challenging.

What you need to know

Uber doesn’t offer promo codes to existing users, but there are plenty of other ways to save on Uber and get discounts:

  • Uber One: Monthly subscription that offers Cash back on rides and discounts on Uber Eats orders
  • Credit card partnerships: Get Uber Cash and other benefits

Are there Uber promo codes for existing users in 2023? Answer: Not really

There are typically no Uber promo codes for existing users. Uber creates promo codes for existing users for special promotional events, which expire after the event ends.

Nearly all codes you find online are for new users who have never requested a ride, so it’s mostly a waste of time to hunt for codes online if you’ve already taken a ride.

How existing Uber users can get discounts on rides

If you’ve never used Uber, the best way to save is with a promo code. But if you’ve already used a code, try one of the methods below to save on your next ride.

Uber One: Monthly membership that offers cash back on rides

Uber One is a monthly or annual subscription that offers 6% Uber Cash back on Uber rides, and discounts on Uber Eats deliveries.

Uber One costs $9.99 per month. Typically you can get a free trial offering one free month.

Uber Cash you receive as cash back can be used for Uber rides and Uber Eats deliveries.

More Uber One benefits

  • 6% Uber Cash back on eligible rides
  • Up to 10% off eligible deliveries and pickup orders
  • $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats deliveries
  • Cancel without fees or penalties
  • Get top-rated drivers on rides

Credit cards that offer rewards on Uber

Uber also partners with credit card companies to offer rewards.

American Express Gold โ€” Add an American Express Gold card to your Uber account to get $10 Uber Cash monthly. You can also claim a free Uber Eats Pass for 12 months, which gives you a $0 delivery fee and 5% off some restaurants.

American Express Platinum โ€” Add an American Express Platinum card to your Uber account to get $15 Uber Cash monthly, along with a free Eats pass for 12 months.

Apple Card Benefits โ€” Use the Apple Card with Apple Pay to get 3% cash back on Uber rides and Uber Eats orders.

You can no longer share your promo code to get free rides

In the past, the best way to get free rides as an existing user was to share your own promo code with new users. Unfortunately, Uber ended the Free Rides feature in 2020, so you can no longer share your code to get credits.

Promo codes for Uber Eats

Promo codes for Uber Eats work the same way as Uber: Codes for new users are easy to find, but it’s harder to find codes for existing users.

Uber Rewards also apply to Uber Eats, so earning points from rides and food orders can help you save on Uber Eats.

Uber Eats also offers temporary local discounts, like buy one get one free and discounted delivery fees.

With Uber Eats, you can still share your promo code with friends to get app credits.

Find your code in the Uber Eats app menu under the “Send a Gift” section. You’ll get app credits when a friend signs up with your code and places an order.

Promo code FAQ

What is an Uber promo code?

An Uber promo code, also known as an Invite Code, is a unique code issued by Uber that gives users free ride credits when others use your code and take a ride.

All Uber users and all Uber drivers are automatically issued an Invite Code that you can share with others to earn free credits. The “Invite Friends” feature inside the Uber App displays your code and lets your share your code in a text message to contacts.

For new user promo codes, the code will only work if you’ve never requested an Uber ride from your account.

If you request a ride and then cancel, you are no longer considered a new user. Only one promotion is applied per ride. Codes are valid for all Uber services.

Where do you enter an Uber promo code?

To enter an Uber promo code, go to Account > Wallet, then scroll to the bottom and find the Add Promo Code option. Type in the code.

You will get a success message if the code is valid and if you meet the terms of the code, such as being a new user.

If you enter the code incorrectly or if you don’t meet the terms of the code, you’ll get an error message.

Common error messages are “Promotion code is not valid” and “Another invite promotion was already applied.” “Another invite promotion was already applied” means you’ve already used a new-user promo code.

If someone sends you an invite link via text message, all you have to do is download the Uber app using that link, and the free ride promotion will be applied to your account.

To input a promo code in Uber, go to the Wallet section and scroll to promo code

Input your promo code in the Wallet area of the app

Do free ride credits expire?

Yes. Uber ride credits expire after a few months, usually 60 days. Unfortunately, you can’t extend the expiration date.

You can see the expiration date of your ride credits by going to Wallet > Promotions in the Uber app.

You can use the credits on the day of the expiration date, so if the expiration date is today, the free credits go away tomorrow.

Do promotions work everywhere?

Uber ride promotions have an applicable area, typically a country. To see where you can use your ride credits, go to Wallet > Promotions, tap “Promotions” and look for the applicable area in small print.

Do credits carry over if the cost of your Uber was less than the promotion credit?

Each promotion applies to only one ride, so credits do not carry over if your ride costs less than the promotion amount. For example, if your promotion was for $15 off and your ride only cost $10, you do NOT keep $5 in credit.

Where can you see how many free rides you have?

Go to Account > Wallet and scroll down to Promotions to see a list of your active promotions.

Dough you are really smart. I will definitely give you props for mmaking people use your code so that you get discount too. Guys, you don’t need to use his code. As a new user, you can get free ride.

Right, I said myself the same thing. But I don’t consider him smart. This is actually pretty lame simply because MOST of the people that came to this post are already Uber and Lyft users (not new users). So we know to use our own code every time we create a new account. I’m sorry but as I was going through the post I just had to laugh. Very, very weak technique the one he used. The least he could do was to be more honest and maybe more people than expected would’ve used his code just for the good points he made. ??

You need to share your referral link with people who have never used Uber before if you want to get free rides. They don’t have any other loyalty program for frequent riders.

You have to refer new passengers to the app to get free credits. No frequent flier miles for uber ๐Ÿ™‚

Find someone who is in a similar situation and just make a load of uber accounts? Lots and lots of free rides. Or just partner up with someone from work, do this and use their code, and split however much there is remaining. Maybe even take it in turns to make a new account? Surely 10-15 mins of it is better than paying wage money

Don’t try to trick uber by creating lots of accounts. You will be deactivated. The free rides aren’t worth losing access to Uber.

Sorry, but this is just bulls*** and it’s definitely NOT some secret “trick”ยฐ

All your trying to do is make people use your promo code so you can make money out of it! People, don’t use this code … instead, use your own code (every existing Uber customer has one) because that way BOTH of you (the referring person and the referred person) get credits you can use! Don’t help this smart guy make money.

Sorry dude but I’m calling BS on you… the author of the article has been transparent to the extent of letting the reader know they can refer with their own code as well. You would see that if you read for understanding.

Hi, I have signed up on Uber using your promo code and I had a question about that – do you get notified / can you see the names of all the users who have used your promo code? How can you tell how many credits you have earned through referring Uber to other? Does the credit just appear under the “payments” section? Please let me know. Thanks.

      Hey Sam!

Uber notifies me via email each time someone uses my promo code when they sign up to drive. I’m NOT notified each time a passenger uses the code, but the total number of passenger referrals I get each week are reported on my weekly invoice in the “Invoices” area of the Uber partner’s site at the end of each week.
