Lyft Driver FAQ
How much can you make driving with Lyft?
Ridesharing drivers can expect to make around $15—$25 per hour, on average. Check out the latest income data from the top resources.
How do I get started as a driver?
Your first step is to apply. Lyft will ask you to enter basic personal information and consent to a background screening.
While you wait for background screening, you can upload your registration, license, and insurance documents.
You can sign on and drive after Lyft accepts your documents and clears your background screening.
How does auto insurance work?
Lyft offers a ($1,000,000) liability policy, and a high-deductible ($2500) contingent collision insurance policy. You will also need to show Lyft that you’re covered by a personal auto insurance policy.
Does Lyft reimburse me for any of my costs, like gas?
No, Lyft does not reimburse you for any expenses. You must pay for your own gas, maintenance, personal insurance, and any other expenses.
As an independent contractor, you can write off some of your expenses to reduce your taxable income.
The application is taking a long time. What should I do?
If more than 10 days have passed since you began the background screening, contact Lyft and ask for an update.

Good Morning, my vehicle was stolen and I have been taking Lyft to work for about a month. I booked a ride last night for this morning as per usual at 8:05 a.m. It is now 10:07 a.m. and I was to clock in at 8:30!!! It keeps saying ride booked. This is a real upsetting, frustrating hardship. I’ve had to contact my boss and a coworker to inform them I am still waiting!!!! I work in health care, at a surgical center. As well, we are short today!!
I always am professional at work. This is costing me time and money, as well as an extra burden on coworkers who need me there.

Sorry to hear it. Next time, if the schedule feature doesn’t work, just request an on-demand ride.

Lyft should spare drivers from lock outs in future who are daring to drive during covid 19 rather than sitting home. They are out there to help people reach their destinations rather than sitting home and seeking unemployments

DougH says

Your information on the year of the car and the application is contradicting each other. I have seen and read by Lyft that the car can be 2005 but on the application it doesn’t accept it. You either need to
DougH says
Whenever I list a year requirement I do my best to include info that it varies from city to city. Check help.lyft.com for the exact requirement in your area
